Over 25 years ago, Francie Stull (Kristull Ranch) looked at the sighthound group and saw what was missing: a small long-haired sighthound. Using her knowledge as a geneticist and experience at having bred and/or shown over 200 champion Borzoi, Francie used Borzoi, a Whippet and whippet like long-haired sighthounds from the Windsprite Kennel to start what is now our beloved Silken Windhound breed. She has never held her better dogs back but has generously allowed them to go to breeders that continue what she started. As a united group, these breeders are intensely dedicated to breeding a dog that, 50 and 100 years from now, will still be healthy and long lived with personalities that bring joy and looks that will still take our breath away.
To learn more about every aspect of the Silken breed, go to the International Silken Windhound Society (ISWS) website, http://www.silkenwindhounds.org. You will find information ranging from how the breed came to be to how the scientific community has become attracted to working with us in studying the DNA that marks almost all our dogs from the inception of the breed and the health issues that affect us. I am proud to be a part of all that is happening in our growing community. Welcome. I am glad you are here.
