Riata

Riata has such boundless love that she spends every waking moment attempting to reap the world. She faces life with curiosity and a smile, always ready for something new, flopping on her back to offer her tummy for a rub or laying boneless in anyone’s lap that will hold her. When there are treats or love available, Riata rushes in without pause yet she is always ready to have the quiet moments we both need. My beautiful girl is always checking on me. The beat of her softly wagging tail is as familiar now as the beat of my heart. Riata’s special brand of love and zest, along with her exquisite beauty, was passed on to her from her mom and dad. Riata and her boyfriend, Barak, then passed it on to their kids. What a great mom she turned out to be.

I first met and fell in love with Riata at Silkenfest 2005 at Kristull Ranch. In the times we were together after that, she did everything possible to let me know I was her person and please, could she be mine. She wiggled and smiled and winked and followed me everywhere, mercilessly pushing other dogs out of the way while pretending to help me train them. Each time it became harder to leave her. I would find myself reaching for her at night and waking with tears in my eyes. Finally, Francie generously let her come home to me.

Of all my dogs, Riata wins the most hearts. People wait in line for me to place her with them. And they will keep waiting. She is so easy. Easy to live with. Easy to love. She will always greet you with a wagging body and sit close on your feet or in your lap…always aware to not invade your space but waiting for the invitation to do so.

Every day this special soul finds a new way to show her appreciation of sharing her life with me…inching her way further into my heart. And every day I do the thing she wants most… just love her.
