Life With Silkens

While on vacation in Utah, I happened upon Silkens and lost my heart.  It was the beginning of a love affair that has affected my whole life.  My dream of breeding has come true and new treasured friendships have been forged.  Most importantly, my beautiful Silkens have come home to me, forming a bonded, loving family that finds joy together from the moment our eyes open.

Having the chance to breed a beloved animal, experiencing the joys and sorrows, is a blessing I have dreamed of my whole life.  It has been near the top of my ’50 Things I Want To Do Before I Die List’ for years.  Once I found the Silkens I knew it was the start.

First hearing of the Silken Windhound was the beginning of a self fulfilling prophecy that has carried me forward on a whirlwind to where I am now.   For months I researched, made calls and asked questions.  I finally decided to take the plunge and made arrangements to go to Silkenfest, a yearly specialty for Silken Windhounds.  Ah!  Kristull Ranch!  Francie Stull, the geneticist who developed this still rare breed, picked me up at the airport and I had 2 precious days before anyone else came to fall in love with Francie, Kristull Ranch and the dogs.  What a wonderful trip!  I met the people I had spoken to and the dogs I had heard about.  Most importantly, in the midst of all the commotion, I found my little Esperanza, my 1st Silken, and met my beloved Riata, who now is with me also.

And the journey continues.
