Iridessa:  My first pup from my first litter…falling into my hands as she was born.  We’ve not been apart since.  I’ve never had children.  But I have my Irridessa.  And if this dog, my Iridessa, is my child, thank God I don’t have to see her grow up and leave home.

She’s glorious.  White and silver and gold.  Shiny.  Soft.  Playful, cuddly and mischievous (in the emergency room for chewing Aleve, eating my new fancy glasses or chewing pens on white rugs).  She loves being brushed and coddled for hours but won’t tolerate her nails done or her ears cleaned.  She’s a dichotomy of independent and dependent, exasperating and cute. She is a drama queen, screaming her displeasure when I come home that I left her for all of an hour or walking the bed to make sure her pillow (mine actually) is placed correctly.  She is a mighty huntress on safari in my yard, her kingdom, the big game hunter of lizards and snails and bees and squirrels.  (Outsmarting the squirrel is her favorite pastime.)

She has a constant interest and curiosity in everything around her….watching everything with obvious intelligence in her eyes…like she has a grasp of life and love.  She always knows where I am and makes sure I know it.  She lives like she owns the world.  She loves like she owns me.  She’s a bundle of joy, my bundle of love and calm, my traveling buddy, my pillow, my arm rest, my hiking companion, my confidant and my best friend.  As I am hers.

I have watched this amazing dog mature from a delightful pup to an unbelievably strong, feminine beauty.  Yes, she happens to be beautiful.  But to me she’s just my irresistible iridescent Iridessa; my shining companion and friend.

Dessa comes from great dogs.  Riata is from a line that produces beauty and the most wonderful personalities.  Barak, her dad, was the first Silken I saw at my first Silkenfest that I thought the breed must have been bred to look like.  Her breeding plans will be to males that represent where I would like to see the breed move towards in looks, ability, movement and personality.

Dessa bred February 14, Valentine's Day, with Talisman of Sukiya.  What a great day to breed!  'Suki' lives with and is tremendously loved by the Walchek family, in Orlando, Florida.  His looks and personality have delighted me since first meeting him, as have the Walchek family members and the love they so obviously give him.  His breeding is everything I would want for Iridessa....  bringing in the handsome and multi specialty winner, wee Tyler, and the beautiful multi specialty winner Quite Black, who comes down from the Silver line that I have long admired both the look and the offspring of.

Most fun of all will be sharing the litter with Hana and Nicole who will be coming as often as I can steal them away to play and socialize the pups with me.  They already think Dessa is the most beautiful dog in the world (so she must be!).  We await these pups with great excitement and joy.

HeartSong Iridessa
(I was leaving in 2 days.  My moments were swamped with bills to pay, finances to figure, writing a marketing plan to get a job, packing for me and the dogs and planning my driving and hotels.  Then I watched Riata help Iridessa catch a lizard and had to write a terrible poem.)

Iridessa and the lizard

I had a Dessa that swallowed a lizard.
It wiggled and jiggled inside her gizzard.
I don't know why she swallowed a lizard.

The lizard he ran but Dessa was faster.
She sure showed that lizard she was his master.
I gagged and thought 'This is a disaster'.

She stood trembling in joy, only a tail I could see.
Hanging from her mouth wrigglin as fast as could be.
Then she swallowed and YUCK down her throat went he.

First frozen in stance, her eyes looking inward,
She then lit up and danced to the beat of the lizard
Wiggling and jiggling inside her gizzard.

Now all she does is watch for those lizards
Hoping against hope for one more in her gizzard.
Oh yes my Dessa, she done swallowed a lizard.
